What are the 3 types of cloud computing?

It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

The cloud is one of the most popular buzzwords in business these days, and it has become very important to most businesses as well. While the term can be confusing, there are three major types of cloud computing that are useful to know about, so your business can take advantage of this innovative technology without having to worry about all the technology behind it.

These 3 types of cloud computing include software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and infrastructure as a service (IaaS). Let us study each of these types in detail.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

This type of cloud provides access to software applications that are typically hosted by the provider. Businesses can use these applications, often through a web browser, without having to install and maintain them on their own computers. SaaS is a popular option for businesses because it is usually subscription-based and allows users to pay only for what they need when they need it instead of paying upfront with all the bells and whistles included in it. Plus, since the provider takes care of maintenance and updates, you don’t have to worry about those things.

A downside of this type of cloud computing is that, if your internet connection goes out, you won’t be able to use the application until your connection returns. You also need internet access in order to take advantage of SaaS, which might not always be possible in certain situations. SaaS lets businesses access ready-made software products over the internet on a subscription basis. With SaaS solutions, companies can cut IT costs significantly by eliminating IT staff dedicated to managing data storage, computer maintenance, email support, etc.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

PaaS is a cloud platform that allows businesses to develop, run, and manage applications without the hassle and expense of building and maintaining the infrastructure. PaaS providers offer a variety of services, including storage, networking, databases, and more.

PaaS offers a complete deployment and development environment in the cloud. Developers can create applications and services without having to worry about managing the underlying infrastructure. This type of cloud is often used for web applications and SaaS applications.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

IaaS is a model that delivers computer infrastructure—servers, storage, networking, and data center space—on an as-needed basis from a cloud provider. With IaaS, businesses can scale their resources up or down as needed, without making long-term commitments or investing in on-premises hardware.

IaaS gives businesses access to resources such as servers or hard drives for short periods of time for both testing purposes and for use in development projects.
